Crazy Rich? More like Crazy Broke!

Hey party people! I don't know about you guys but personally I'm kinda obsessed with the idea that people are not always as they seem, aka they are a doppelganger of their own self and/or they create a double of themselves. Anyway, for the most part, this blog will be about doubles and doppelgangers seen in movies. Yay!!!

Today, for my first entry, we are going to be talking about Nick Young (yes, the one and only Nick Young!!) one of the main characters from Crazy Rich Asians. Now if you have not seen or read Crazy Rich Asians (or CRA as many die-hard fans call it), it’s basically a story about this couple, Rachel Chu and Nick Young, who go to Singapore to visit Nick’s family and see his best friend get married. At this point in their relationship, Nick and Rachel have been dating for a while now and she has no idea that he’s crazy rich (hahaha get it? crazy rich Asians? Not like mentally crazy just super rich).

Now this creates the idea that their relationship was built on some misconceptions. Nick Young was basically misleading Rachel as coming across as this struggling New York guy when he was actually the child of one of the biggest developers in Singapore. As the story progresses, Nick reveals why he hid that side of himself from Rachel, and that was so he could find someone who would appreciate him for who he is, not for his money. Up until Nick revealed to Rachel that he was in fact a multi-millionaire, he had been living a double life. As a result of living a double life, Nick created two different sides to him, the son of a multi-millionaire and the struggling New York guy. Nick created a double of himself who was basically the opposite of who he really was. He wanted to create a name for himself without his parents’ help. Although having two different sides to him were misleading to Rachel and basically built their relationship on lies, he developed the “poor” side of him to find someone genuinely interested in him rather the money his family had. The double was there to help him find a future partner, not intentionally to hurt anyone. Shout out to all the genuine guys out there just trying to find someone else genuine.

I hope you have a wonderful day!! Thanks for reading my blog, I’ll see you next week😊
