Psych

To follow up on last week, there is yet another TV show with doppelgangers and doubles. The name of the show is called Psych. Psych is a show about a guy, Shawn Spencer, who pretends to be psychic and ends up working for the Santa Barbra Police Department. His dad was a detective, so he had taught Shawn to just make inferences from small clues such as lipstick on a cigarette or trash in the corner of the room. So even though Shawn is an example of someone who is living a double life in the show, Shawn and his partner Gus encounter a lot of individuals who have multiple personality disorder. These individuals whom have this disorder are a great example of a doppelganger. One man in the show had three very extreme personalities, he was a man, a woman as well as a very violent person whom he thought was a demon before he discovered he had this disorder. This man displayed doppelganger qualities in that he was the same person, living out three people’s different ambitions with three different personalities. He was not even aware of these different personalities until later in the episode. Multiple personality disorder is a disorder that causes gaps in a person’s memory, when they are the different personalities. The people affected by this disorder typically do not know that they have it due to the lack of memory that overlaps with each personality. This brings the idea of doppelgangers up because it’s the same person, but they are acting different ways, thus they have multiple sides to themselves but, they’re the same person. Although this is one example of many in Psych, personally, it was the most interesting exploring the multiple personalities disorder.
